C & A Scientific Donates Over $21,000 in Science and Education Gifts to Manassas Area Children through Christmas with Mercy Program

C & A Scientific’s partnership with Manassas-based House of Mercy provides Christmas gifts to over 350 low-income families in the local community.

Manassas, VA (November 30, 2016) — C & A Scientific, manufacturer of award-winning My First Lab® science and educational products for children, announces their donation of over 400 interactive science-based gifts to the Christmas with Mercy gift program.  Christmas with Mercy is managed by Manassas-based House of Mercy Food Pantry and will benefit over 350 children from low-income families in Manassas this holiday season.  C & A Scientific’s donation includes microscopes, experiment kits, and other science-based gifts designed for children from elementary to high school ages with a total retail value of over twenty-one thousand dollars.  The Christmas with Mercy gift selection day is Saturday, December 10 for area families who qualify for the donation program.

“We are so grateful to these wonderful people who have ensured that each of the 352 kids whose parents qualified for Christmas will receive a gift,” says Ann Cimini, executive director for House of Mercy. “I’m even more excited that the microscopes and experiments will expose the kids to science, and encourage them to go outside and explore the natural world, like insects and rocks, or learn the basics of forensic science.  Our gift donations this year are very low, and it fills me with joy that C & A Scientific reached out to help the poor in their community in such a dramatic way.”

“C & A Scientific is honored to help support this year’s Christmas with Mercy program”, adds Matthew Swain, director of marketing for C & A Scientific.  “As a 25-year old, family-owned business in Manassas, we believe kids from all backgrounds should have the tools they need to discover, learn and grow as they explore the world around them.  The donated gifts from our My First Lab® product line is focused on STEM-based learning – science, technology, engineering, and math – and will allow children directly from the community who receive these gifts to build on core academic subjects  – and have fun while learning!”

House of Mercy served 212 families, over 750 people, in October, showing how great the need is locally for families in need. “Many of our families are formerly middle class people who have suffered job loss, catastrophic illness, and other circumstances beyond their control, reports Cimini.  “The local economy, especially jobs that pay enough to support a family, is very soft. This continues to impact all aid agencies in Northern Virginia.”
